Sovereign AI & Resources: AI Safety Summit with Summit 333

1. Sovereignty is bounded – by supply chains, by energy & water resources, cost, data and talent. NO COUNTRY HAS EVERYTHING despite what you think and to be part of the global economy – that is the price you pay.

2. Carbon Offsetting delays the problem – it does not solve the problem. A forest still did its work when you stop it being cutting down and new trees actually produce more carbon than they remove. Further – it does not address e-waste pollution which is a future problem. WE NEED GLOBAL LITERACY AND AGENDA SETTING FOR PLANET FOURISHING.

3. AI Literacy is the biggest bottleneck – often decisions are taken in bits (bytes?) and parts. As everyone fights for compute, a bottle neck is energy and data flows. Energy technically travels faster than data. However, with fiber optics, the volume of data is greater per second than the energy we can move per second. So, you tell me where the bottle neck in compute is? Now think about Agentic AI. If I blink it takes 300 milliseconds, but AI agents move at 467 milliseconds and where your data center is may or may not be a competitive advantage (think intelligence, cyber defense or high frequency trading). YOUR HYPERSCALER MAY BE THE CHOKEPOINT IN THE FUTURE WHEN SPEED MATTERS.

4. Compute is not just hardware – we now have DNA computers, so what we know now maybe obsolete in the future and raise a whole other set of ethical questions (whose DNA? Is there IP protection?)? WE LAG ON GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORKS!

5. We currently consumer natural resources at the rate of 1.73 Earths per year 73% faster than the Earth can regenerate. How many countries have an e-waste policy that recovers 90% of e-waste? ZERO. Less than ¼ of the worlds E-waste was documented as properly collected and recycled.  THIS REQUIRES WHOLE-OF-SOCIETY and WHOLE-OF-GOVERNMENT efforts.

6. Being global means understanding the world. 2.6 people in the world do not have internet – this is not just about accessing their data or giving them access to data (or education) – they need food, shelter, safety, sanitation and healthcare. WE NEED TO THINK OF THE FUTURE OF LIVELIHOODS AND HUMAN FLOURISHING.
