What is the Future of Employment (not Work)?

AI is reshaping what we mean by employment, and we are confusing livelihoods, jobs, and tasks (work), which is a mistake.

Unemployment means we are unable to support ourselves and our families at a minimum standard of living that gives us access to health, education, security, shelter, and other necessities, as well as the social and cultural rights needed to develop our personalities.

This shift has accelerated post-pandemic, driven by the rapid onboarding of AI and the industry's unwillingness to safeguard Jobs (when they should have focused on livelihoods). We need to course-correct urgently, either through policy interventions (regulations) or standards (that require listed companies to also disclose job turnover, jobs saved versus created (lower in the value chain), and families supported!).

We need greater Board accountability! What are other interventions you can suggest?

Suggest you read the Universal Declarations of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The right to employment means the Right to choose a job, have just and favorable work conditions (the mental uncertainity of not knowing if you will lose your job is an issue), fair renumeration for you and for family for an existence worthy of human dignity (to have a standard of living for yourself and family – for heath, shelter, technical education,  etc.), non-discrimination and equality, protection against unemployment (look at rights for mothers and children), for social and cultural rights indispensable for their dignity and the free development of their personality, right to rest and leisure (includes the ability to develop beyond a focus on tasks and work).
